Automation from the ground up.

Never had automation before? That's exactly where we start. We work with manufacturers at every stage — from a blank page and a problem to a validated, running system. No minimum complexity required.

Why White Lab

What sets our approach apart

We write the spec with you

Not sure what you need? We'll help you define it. A clear User Requirement Spec before anything gets designed saves time and money downstream.

One team, full lifecycle

Mechanical, controls, software, and validation under one roof — no handoffs to unfamiliar teams in the middle of your project.

Validated and handed off

Every system we deliver comes with test documentation and a full handoff package so you can run it with confidence from day one.

Vision-ready by default

If your system needs machine vision, we can integrate it in-house — no separate vendor, no coordination overhead.

From an Idea to Production

How a full automation engagement unfolds

1

Discovery & Requirements

We start by understanding your process, your goals, and your constraints. Together we build a User Requirement Specification (URS) that defines exactly what the system needs to do — before anyone picks up a wrench or writes a line of code. This document becomes the foundation that every subsequent decision is built on.

  • URS authoring and review
  • Feasibility and risk assessment
  • Scope and budget alignment
2

Concept & System Design

Our mechanical engineers translate requirements into a real design. Layouts, equipment selection, structural considerations, and design reviews to catch problems on paper — not on the floor. This is where the concept becomes something tangible.

  • Mechanical design and layout
  • Equipment and component selection
  • Line flow and ergonomics review
  • Design review and approval
3

Controls & Integration

Our controls engineers bring the hardware to life. PLC programming, I/O architecture, device communication, and system integration — making sure everything talks to everything else, reliably. This is the core of what makes a system actually run.

  • PLC programming and configuration
  • I/O architecture and panel design
  • Device and network integration
  • Safety system implementation
4

Custom Software

We build the software layer that connects your operators to the system. HMIs, data logging, reporting dashboards, and process visibility tools — all tailored to how your team actually works, not a generic off-the-shelf interface dropped on top.

  • HMI design and development
  • Data logging and historian integration
  • Reporting and production dashboards
  • Process visibility and alerting
5

Testing & Validation

Every system is formally tested before handoff. We run Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests, and produce the documentation your team and your QA process need to put the system into production with full confidence.

  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Test scripts and change control documentation
  • Full handoff package

Frequently Asked Questions

We've never had automation before — is that a problem?

Not at all. Most of our greenfield clients start with a process problem, not a system spec. Our Discovery & Requirements phase is specifically designed for that starting point.

Do we need a system design ready before contacting you?

No. Reach out with a description of the problem you're trying to solve. That's enough to start a conversation.

Can you integrate machine vision into a general automation project?

Yes — vision is one of our core competencies. If inspection, guidance, or identification is part of your system, we handle it in-house without bringing in a separate vendor.

Are our processes and system designs kept confidential?

We don't work without NDAs. Your process, your IP, and your system design are protected from day one.

Do you work with smaller companies or single-line projects?

Yes — and we actively welcome them. Many larger integrators set minimum project sizes or pass on greenfield clients. We don't have those restrictions.
